Scanning Pinterest, as we all do, I came across this lil' guy and decided I would explore some Arnold rendering.
I am glad I made the time to explore offline renderers and lighting. I learned a lot.

Holy crap, look at this first attempt....I mean...I see why I made certain things the way they were but I am glad I went my own route.
Also, this lighting pass is, it came a long way. 

Understanding the types of rendering, CPU vs GPU, resolution, light resolution, and just how Arnold behaves in general, twas all a treat.

Community Help

Flipped Normals has literally taught me Marvelous Designer, Zbrush, and Substance Painter within an hour each. I love them so much.

On top of that, they have now helped better understand Arnold! Also, I asked many of my friends and Discord friends about it and really help me bring this home.

Dark Tower: A Work in Progress

Hey, all! Man, things are crazy right now. But I think it's important we all take advantage of this and level-up where you can!

As of late... software of focus has been Unity and Zbrush. I have been taking courses in Unity Learn Premium, which is free right now to get back some lost Unity knowledge and also learn some scripting things. It's great. Click here to join and learn code in Unity.


As for Zbrush, I made a skull! Man, I don't work enough with organics in Zbrush. This was so much fun to make!

This is the final model for a piece of artwork from SephirothArt called Dark Tower

  Play around in Substance & Iray.

I took a break and played around in Substance Painter with various materials but the goal in SP was to break but also play around with baking and preview the results in IRay (Target is Marmoset/Unreal). The inside of the nose is and some other parts are a bit off. I think when I ZRemeshed in Zbrush I went too low (0.5). I will go (0.75) and see what happens.

Putting this all together and starting to work on the high-poly is up next.

2020 and Beyond

Hello, All! My name is Michael!

Welcome to the blog!

I hope to use this space for various things that pertain to 3D.  Game Art & Arch Viz mostly, This space is my growth in the industry, tutorials, WIPS, a space for my students and much more!!!

I am currently teaching at Kalamazoo Valley Community College 2 different 3D course one covering Maya and Substance Painter basics and the other Zbrush basics. I also teach various 3D workshops in 3D printing and game art for non-college students. It's very fun!

I went through and graduated from Michigan State University Game Design and Development program and working at MSU's Game Development Lab, The GEL Lab. After graduation, go on to work at Steelcase as a 3D Product Graphics Analyst (Modeler) and 3D Freelance (Which I am open for).
